President William Ruto has asserted that the Hustler Fund remains free of corruption due to its technology-driven framework.
Speaking at the launch of Kenya’s 5th Open Government Partnership Action Plan in Nairobi, Ruto highlighted how technology has insulated the project, ensuring transparency and efficiency.
“This is the single government project that has no corruption because technology has provided a framework to make sure we insulate it,” Ruto stated. He added, “Just imagine if we were giving out the Hustler Fund using committees from every location. It would be chaos.”
The President revealed that his administration has invested approximately Sh12 billion into the Hustler Fund, benefiting over 22 million Kenyans. “Today, we have 2 million Kenyans borrowing from the Hustler Fund daily,” he noted, emphasizing the fund’s accessibility through a seamless technology platform.
Ruto also discussed the broader implications of technology in governance, stating, “Technology provides good opportunities but also has challenges.” He cited the Means Testing Instrument as another example of how the government is leveraging technology, particularly in the contentious new University Funding model.
Despite ongoing debates among parents, students, and university management regarding the funding model, Ruto maintained that these technological advancements are vital for enhancing public service delivery and benefiting the Kenyan people.
