The current talk of impeaching Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi is self-sponsored, this publication can authoritatively reveal. Speaking on Sunday, Mr. Justin Muturi ‘dared’ Members of Parliament currently pushing for his removal as Speaker after a section of the Gikuyu Council of Elders endorsed him two weeks ago as the official spokesperson for the Mt. Kenya people.
”Bring the motion of impeachment against me. I’m not a coward. I have been in the political game for long. Some of those threatening me have been in Parliament for only three years. Those against me can’t even meet the threshold to kick me out,” Muturi said at St Mark Ena Secondary School in Embu on Sunday.
Speaker Muturi’s Sunday statement could just be for the show and part of an elaborate scheme, involving some allies of DP William Ruto from Mt Kenya East, to have Muturi represent the region inside Ruto’s camp. According to reports, handlers of the DP and influential figures around Speaker Muturi have been meeting behind closed doors, to work on a formula that will see the two leaders work together in 2022.
”There will be no impeachment. It is just a talk by Muturi and his people, to raise his profile. Ruto wants the speaker in his corner. Either as PM or DP in 2022,” a source said.
It is a tough balancing act of William Ruto, who is faced with the daunting task of settling on one person from the region to deputise him,in a pool comprising MPs Moses Kuria, Kimani Ichungwa, Irungu Kangata, Mwangi Kiunjuri and Rigathi Gachagua who are all fighting for the position within his UDA camp.
To stall any fall-outs, the DP may consider picking Speaker Muturi so that his UDA allies do not feel he prefers anyone over the other.
