Leaders from Mt Kenya East led by Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi and Speaker JB Muturi have successfully taken over the Restore and Build Kenya party which was associated with former presidential aspirant Peter Ole Kiyapi and are working towards rebranding the outfit to enter into a pre-election pact with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

RBK Party can now be authoritatively said to be in the hands of Governor Kiraitu and company after the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal dismissed a petition that challenged its takeover.

Tribunal chairperson Desma Nungo said the application by Alloysius Okotch and Peter Ondeng that sought to thwart the takeover was unmerited.

According to RBK Secretary-General Mugambi Imanyara, they intend to rebrand the outfit ahead of a major relaunch, then recruit membership, after which they will declare which presidential candidate they will partner with next year.

”Having overcome the legal obstacle, the party is ready to rebrand with a view to engage in recruitment of members. We are making final arrangements to relaunch the party. We have a lot of activities lined on the way and events that will lead to the launch of the party,” the secretary-general said.
