Oburu Oginga, the EALA MP and eldest brother to ODM leader Raila Odinga revealed on Saturday, that the late Kiambaa MP Paul Koinange and the former prime minister were in same bed at the Nairobi Hospital and both struggling for their lives and fighting the same disease.

”I would like to pass the condolences of my brother, the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. He was a very close friend of the departed brother. Actually Raila was in bed, together with my brother (Paul Koinange) the same time, suffering from the same disease. And both of them struggling for their lives,” Oburu said, adding that it was unfortunate the MP lost the fight, while Raila continues to recover from the deadly virus.

Oburu, who was speaking in Kiambaa on Saturday eulogised the late MP as being focused on the unity of Mt Kenya and the Lake, and the unity of Kenya.

”He has been to several places , promoting the handshake and campaigning for the BBI. One of his most ardent visions was to bring Mt Kenya and Lake Victoria together and then eventually the whole of Kenya. He worked very hard for it.”

The late Koinange was buried at his rural home in Kiambaa on Saturday, at a ceremony attended by several leaders, among them Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, Kiambu Governor James Nyoro and a number of MPs.

The legislator succumbed to COVID-19 related complications on Wednesday at the Nairobi Hospital leaving behind two widows, five children and several grandchildren.
