Raila, Kalonzo attend JLAC Hearing on IEBC Commissioners

1 min read

Azimio leaders Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka are currently in Parliament attending a hearing session of the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee (JLAC) on petitions seeking the removal of the four IEBC Commissioners who rejected the outcome of the presidential election results.

Four petitions before the committee have accused the quartet including; Juliana Cherera (Vice Chair), Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi, and Justus Nyagaya of gross violation of the constitution and incompetence.

The Azimio Coalition and its leadership has vowed to fight any attempts to remove the four from office.

The committee chaired by Tharaka MP George Murugara is expected to scrutinize the petitions and substantiate before the House within 14 days whether they hold ground for removal under Article 251(1)(a) of the Constitution.

Article 251 of the Constitution provides that commissioners can only be removed through a petition filed in the National Assembly and a tribunal formed by the President.
