Even though ODM party boss Raila Odinga quietly jetted out of the country to Dubai over the weekend, his top ally and deputy leader Hassan Joho continues with local assignments, as it emerges his meeting with Governor Anne Waiguru was solely about 2022 politics and status of the ongoing Jubilee and ODM coalition talks.
According to sources within the corridors of power, Joho and the Kirinyaga governor are part of a national team, comprising regional leaders from every part of the country who will be part of a broad-based alliance being woven by President Uhuru and Raila Odinga.
Governors Anne Waiguru and Governor Charity Ngilu of Kitui are set to be the leading women leaders in that camp.
”It was about 2022. With Raila out of the country, his team must continue with the work. Golf outings are where power negotiations are made. That is what happened today,” one of the sources confided to this publication.
Even though Governor Joho is serving his final term in office, Waiguru is on her first five years but the sources disclose she may not defend her gubernatorial seat in 2022 and is headed to the national scene. Already, Joho has declared his intention to run for the top seat under ODM, a strategy to catapult him above the county weight, to the national arena.
Apart from their political futures, the two leaders who are senior members of their respective political parties also discussed the status of ongoing Jubilee-ODM negotiations, which will see the two most dominant political parties in the country front a single presidential candidate in 2022.
