President Uhuru Kenyatta is heading to his Mt Kenya backyard where he will rally the region’s leaders and opinion shapers behind Azimio Movement leader Raila Odinga in Sagana, Nyeri county. Dubbed Sagana 3, President Uhuru will use the occasion to launch an onslaught against his deputy William Ruto in the vote-rich block after the DP publicly declared he’s the region’s kingpin.
Confirming the meeting, Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju said the meeting is expected to happen, but was tight-lipped on the exact dates.
”Sagana Three is supposed to happen. It could happen either before or after the NDC but it’s supposed to happen,” SG Tuju told a local publication.
However, Kieni MP Kanini Kega who is a close ally of both President Uhuru and Raila Odinga was explicit and stated the meeting will be held next week, and brings on board leaders from all walks of life, including politicians, church leaders, elders, rights groups as well as representatives of the youth, women, mama mboga and boda boda.
“We’ve now decided to embark on going down to the areas we have worked [in] to remind the people what we promised — roads, markets, hospitals, railway revival — and what we have done, and also to tell our people why the President has chosen Raila and not Ruto.
Already the tides are changing in Mt Kenya before the President even goes to the ground. You can imagine now what will happen if he convenes Sagana Three, which will happen next week,” the MP said.
Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu, another ally of the Head of State says Uhuru will use the meeting to outline his political agenda for the region and put his backyard in order ahead of the polls.
”This is the time. Sagana Three is happening next week just before the NDC so that the President can explain to the region his position, plans and to give direction on how the region should vote in the coming election,” MP Ngunjiri said.
