President Ruto Promises Return of Kazi Mtaani in One Month, Rebrands Initiative

1 min read

President William Ruto announced on Saturday that the Kazi Mtaani programme will be reinstated within the next month, responding to demands from Kisumu residents during a rally in Kondele. The initiative, aimed at reducing unemployment, will be rebranded as Climate Work Mtaani.

“I want to assure the youths that Kazi Mtaani will be activated in the next one month, so prepare adequately,” Ruto stated, encouraging locals to register for the programme. His commitment comes after members of the Citizens Assembly, known as Bunge la Wananchi, urged the president to bring back the initiative, which was popular during former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.

“Bring back the Kazi Mtaani programme as quickly as possible,” one resident pleaded, while another requested an increase in daily wages from Ksh700 to Ksh1,000.

During a previous address at the National Youth Service (NYS) pass-out ceremony in Gilgil, Ruto explained that the revamped initiative would be managed by NYS officers. “This program is designed to bring more young people into the space of greening Kenya and managing our environmental sustainability,” he said.

The Kazi Mtaani programme aims to engage youth in climate action initiatives, addressing pressing environmental issues while providing employment opportunities. Ruto’s announcement reflects the government’s commitment to tackling unemployment and promoting environmental sustainability through youth engagement.
