Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has moved in to mediate between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto. Multiple sources from the deputy president’s camp reveal Ruto sought the help of the Ugandan leader last week, to patch things up between him and his boss, Uhuru Kenyatta.

President Uhuru Kenyatta enjoys a warm relationship with General Museveni, a relationship dating back to 2013 when Mr. Kenyatta took over from former President Mwai Kibaki. Apart from the close association, DP Ruto’s men also believe the president could give the Ugandan leader a listening ear, due to his age and influence in the region’s politics.

During the visit to Uganda last week, President Museveni is said to have also told the DP to slow down with his Hustlers vs Dynasty narrative, telling him it was a dangerous path that has a potential of descending the country into chaos in 2022.

”There is nothing impossible in politics. It is about interests. The President has been so rough on us but our saving grace has been the fact that we have the people. We have no problem if he wants to reconcile with us,” Senator Mithika Linturi of Meru says.

On 2022 choice, President Museveni prefers DP Ruto to Raila Odinga and has made this public several times in his country.
