Is Martha Karua the likely running mate for Azimio Movement led by Raila Odinga, who is the new coalition party’s presidential flagbearer? There are those who strongly feel the former minister is the most suitable person to deputize Mr. Odinga and today’s new deal among the One Kenya Alliance (OKA) principals could be paving the way for OKA to partner with Azimio.

Speaking on Wednesday afternoon after signing a deed of assignment together with other OKA principals, Wiper leader ruled out working with the Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza Alliance but disclosed their outfit was open to working with like-minded parties after a transparent engagement.

”The assertion to join other parties has been there. We are open to like-minded political formations but the mode of engagement shall be open, inclusive, transparent, and consultative,”  Mr. Musyoka said, adding that decision would be made by all the four OKA principals. Kanu’s Gideon Moi, NARC-K’s Martha Karua, and United Democratic Party’s Cyrus Jirongo.

Currently, in the Azimio Movement, former presidential aspirant Peter Kenneth and Agriculture CS Peter Munya are touted as the most suitable picks for the outfit’s deputy. The claimed entry of Martha Karua among the choices is likely to give more impetus to Odinga’s penetration into Mt Kenya.

Today’s deal is a pact officially committing the principals to work together under the alliance ahead of the general election. The event, held at the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka Command Center in Karen, Nairobi also saw Gideon Moi’s Kanu, Cyrus Jirongo’s UDP, and Martha Karua’s Narc Kenya officially become part of OKA.
