Nyoro Declares 2027 Presidential Bid, Raises Stakes in Mt Kenya

People’s Party of Kenya leader Ndindi Nyoro has declared that he will be on the presidential ballot in 2027, marking an audacious entry into the fast-forming race to State House.

Speaking during his first familiarisation tour of Mukuyu, his political backyard in Kiharu Constituency, the outspoken MP said he is ready to take the contest national and not merely remain a regional force.

“I will be on the ballot as a 2027 Presidential candidate,” Nyoro declared a day after unveiling the PPK.

With that announcement, the region now has three declared presidential hopefuls, including Nyoro himself, Martha Karua of the People’s Liberation Party, and Rigathi Gachagua of the Democracy for Citizens Party, a line-up revealing how deeply the mountain is preparing for the post-2027 political chessboard.

Nyoro also used the tour to sketch out the kind of government he says he would want to lead, vowing that free national education would be a cornerstone of his administration if he wins the presidency.

“Just like in Kiharu, once elected as President, my administration will guarantee free national education,” he said, pitching education as a national equaliser and a promise he believes can travel beyond his home turf.

The PPK leader has also drawn a hard line against UDA politicians from Mt Kenya who have broken ranks with the ruling party and are looking for political homes, after hurling insults at Rigathi Gachagua.

Nyoro said such leaders must first repair their relationship with the DCP boss before they can expect a place in his new political home.

“Kama wewe uko UDA na umetukana mheshimwa Rigathi Gachagua, People Party of Kenya haina nafasi yako,” Nyoro said.

The Kiharu MP also turned his attention to the wider opposition, urging its leaders to keep their house in order if they hope to mount any serious challenge against President William Ruto in 2027.
