Former Nyeri Town Member of Parliament (MP) Ngunjiri Wambugu has issued a stern warning to politicians seeking positions within the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), cautioning them about possible internal nomination challenges ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a statement shared on his official Facebook page on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Wambugu alleged that the party could engage in questionable nomination practices that may disadvantage aspirants regardless of their grassroots influence.
The former legislator, who once served as an aide to DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua, claimed that internal party dynamics and elite interests could override local political efforts.
Wambugu advised politicians considering joining the party to proceed with caution, suggesting that party tickets might be influenced by financial power or political connections rather than merit or popularity on the ground.
He warned that even those who have invested time and resources in building the party’s grassroots structures could be sidelined in favour of other contenders.
His remarks come in the wake of leadership changes within the DCP, following the appointment of Nyandarua Senator John Methu as the new Secretary General, replacing Hezron Obaga.
The reshuffle, announced after a lengthy National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Monday, May 25, 2026, has sparked internal discussions about the party’s direction and strategy ahead of the upcoming elections.
Wambugu’s comments have since stirred debate among party supporters, with many interpreting his statement as a reflection of growing tension within the DCP’s leadership ranks.
