The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has announced a significant salary increase for police officers, aiming to boost law enforcement remuneration significantly. This decision was revealed during a press conference on Thursday by NPSC Chairperson Eliud Kinuthia.

Under the new pay structure, police constables will see a salary increase of Ksh4,000, raising their earnings from Ksh21,645 to Ksh25,645 per month. “Our goal is to ensure police officers are fairly compensated for their dedicated service,” said Kinuthia.

Constables with extended service are set to earn between Ksh50,145 and Ksh69,640, reflecting their experience. The chairperson noted that the highest salary would go to those who have served over 20 years. “This is a recognition of their commitment and service to the nation,” he added.

Additionally, Senior Assistant Inspector Generals of Police will see their salaries increase by Ksh21,026, bringing their earnings from Ksh200,899 to Ksh221,915. Those at the upper end of this rank can earn between Ksh310,725 and Ksh409,365.

The NPSC has also addressed concerns regarding career stagnation among long-serving officers. “We have received complaints about officers who have served for over 30 years with clean records,” Kinuthia explained. To address this, the commission has recommended the promotion of 1,957 officers aged between 53 and 59, including 87 women, ensuring that merit-based advancements are made.
