Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has issued a directive reinstating a ban on all school visits and activities for the upcoming third term. This announcement was made on Wednesday, September 4, and aims to ensure strict compliance across all educational institutions.
In a circular sent to regional, county, and sub-county Directors of Education, Kipsang stated, “The purpose of this circular is to ask you to enforce the directive by ensuring that schools do not conduct any of these activities.” He urged officials to communicate this directive to all schools under their jurisdiction.
The enforcement of this ban means that students will remain at home until the end of the term, as it also prohibits half-term breaks and sporting events. This policy, originally introduced by former Education CS Fred Matiang’i, is designed to minimize contact between candidates and outsiders, particularly to regulate cheating during national examinations.
Additionally, motivational speakers will not be permitted to address students in preparation for their exams. Kipsang warned, “Any head teacher who is allowing them in their schools is doing so at their own peril.”
The PS also raised concerns about individuals impersonating ministry officials to gain access to schools. He urged head teachers to report such incidents to the police immediately, stating, “Head teachers should call the police in case anybody visits their schools with letters of permission purported to be from the ministry.”
