Murkomen Condemns Gachagua’s Threat of Violence in 2027 Polls as Dangerous and Reckless

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has condemned former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s recent statement that the country risks a repeat of the 2007/08 bloodshed as dangerous and irresponsible.

Gachagua warned if the polls are not run professionally and fairly, there could be chaos in the country
Speaking at a funeral in Matisi, Kitale on Saturday, Murkomen said the remarks were reckless.

“Announcing that the 2027 elections will be marred by more violence than the 2007 elections is dangerous. People lost loved ones in the violence, some have not recovered from the trauma of that loss. This kind of talk is enough to bar a person from holding any public office,” he said.

He further warned the former Deputy President that he shouldn’t make a personal loss of position look like a national crisis.

“Don’t harm the entire country because of your political problems. People will not die for you to occupy office,” the CS said.

Murkomen assured the nation that under his watch, the country will not experience a repeat of the 2007/08 post-poll violence. He termed the experience a lasting lesson for the country.

He directed the Trans-Nzoia County Commissioner and the security team in the county to ensure every politician who sponsors goons and political thuggery is brought to justice.

Commenting on the violence that rocked Rigathi Gachagua’s political party launch in Nairobi on Thursday, the CS said he has been briefed by the Inspector General of Police that investigations are ongoing and that everyone who was involved in the violence will be brought to book.
