Mt Kenya MPs backing Kanini Kega for EALA slot against UDA’s wish

1 min read

Legislators from the Mt Kenya region are strongly lobbying for Kanini Kega, former Kieni MP to clinch the EALA nomination in Parliament after they were ‘betrayed’ by their Rift Valley UDA counterparts who plotted on Tuesday night and joined hands with MPs from Western Kenya, Ukambani and Coast to deny the region’s nominees a slot in the EAC Assembly.

On Wednesday at State House, the Kenya Kwanza Coalition voted for ex-MPs Ziporah Kering, David Sankok, former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar, ex-nominated Senator Falhada Iman, and former URP secretary general Fred Muteti as the outfit’s EALA nominees.

UDA MPs from Mt Kenya unsuccessfully rallied support for former Igembe Central MP Kubai Iringo and youthful politician Geoffrey Maina who lost in the State House voting session. The legislators expected President Ruto would give the region a slot in the Kenya Kwanza EALA list, something that failed to come to fruition.

Today, lawmakers are expected to have the final EALA nominees when each of the bicameral Houses conducts a vote by secret ballot on all the 27 nominees, both from Azimio and Kenya Kwanza who were shortlisted.
