Leaders Demand Swift Justice After Brutal Attack on Senator Godfrey Osotsi

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has recorded a formal statement at Parliament Police Station in Nairobi over the April 8 assault at Java House in Kisumu, where he was attacked by a group of men in a violent incident that left him bloodied before restaurant staff intervened.

Osotsi, accompanied by Siaya Governor James Orengo, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, urged police to expedite investigations and arrest all those involved, including the alleged ringleader, Willis Akoth.

The leaders also called for scrutiny of Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, whom Osotsi has accused of orchestrating the attack amid rising tensions linked to the Linda Mwananchi movement.

Three suspects are currently in custody as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) continues to probe the case. PS Omollo has denied any involvement, dismissing the allegations as a smear campaign.

Governor Orengo, who is representing Osotsi as legal counsel, has formally protested the attack and the delayed prosecution of those responsible, describing the incident as a grave violation of security and the rule of law.

In a statement on Tuesday Orengo warned that such acts of violence against elected leaders threaten Kenya’s democratic institutions and must not be tolerated.

“Those behind this attack must be identified and held accountable without delay. We cannot allow a culture of impunity to take root,” Orengo said.

Political leaders across party lines have condemned the assault, calling for justice and urging authorities to ensure the safety of all public officials.
