Kajwang Regrets Magwanga’s Resignation, Calls Homa Bay Leadership Rift a “Disappointing Divorce”

Homa Bay Senator Moses Kajwang has expressed regret over the resignation of Deputy Governor Joseph Oyugi Magwanga, describing the fallout within the county’s top leadership as a “disappointing divorce.”

In a statement, Kajwang said he learned of Magwanga’s resignation and its acceptance by Governor Gladys Wanga with deep disappointment. He recalled that the Wanga–Magwanga ticket in the 2022 General Election was crafted by ODM leader Raila Odinga to unite former political rivals in a show of unity and stability for Homa Bay County.

Kajwang noted that he played a central role in bringing the two leaders together during the campaign period, expressing hope that their partnership would usher in a new era of progress and development for the region.

“As a matchmaker, and on behalf of many who believed in the duo, this divorce is disappointing,” Kajwang said, adding that reconciliation would have been preferable before the resignation became final.

The senator thanked Magwanga for his service to the people of Homa Bay and urged Governor Wanga to reflect on the underlying issues that led to the fallout. He cautioned that unless the root causes of the disagreement are addressed, similar challenges could emerge in the future.

Kajwang further emphasized that leaders from the county had deliberately given the current administration space to deliver on its development promises. He called for renewed focus on efficient, people-centered governance to ensure that the aspirations of Homa Bay residents remain at the heart of county leadership.
