National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has warned President William Ruto that ODM is reconsidering its working relationship with UDA and the party might chart its own political path away from the broad-based government.
Junet, also the Suna East MP, is accusing the Ruto administration of orchestrating a campaign to weaken ODM by coercing its members from Nyanza, Coast, and Western regions to defect to the ruling party.
According to Junet, ODM members serving in government, including those in Cabinet and senior state positions, are being pressured to distance themselves from the party and its leadership structures.
“People ODM brought to government are being told not to associate with the party. This must stop,” Junet said, insisting that they will not tolerate continued political intimidation from UDA.
There has been simmering friction between ODM and UDA since last month’s joint Parliamentary Group meeting, where Junet pressed President Ruto to expedite the release of over KSh 12 billion owed to ODM in unremitted political party funding.
The demand is said to have irked the President’s people, further straining relations between the two sides.
Junet also raised concerns over zoning arrangements to President Ruto and told him that ODM’s political strongholds must be respected. He warned UDA that ODM will not accept attempts to dilute its influence in key regions.
The ODM leadership has set a June 2026 deadline to decide whether to continue supporting President Ruto’s administration or to chart an independent political path ahead of 2027.
