Celebrated journalist Jacque Maribe and her ex-fiancee Jowie Irungu were back in court today for the charges of murdering businesswoman Monica Kimani in 2019.

Yesterday in Nairobi, a witness has told the High Court in Nairobi that murder suspect Joseph Irungu, alias Jowie, shot and injured himself at Jacque Maribe’s residence, on the night Ms. Kimani was killed by getting her throat slit.

Kasaine said that Jowie called him via WhatsApp at 2 am on September 20, 2018.

”I was asleep with my wife, when his call woke me up. He inquired if I had paraffin in my house. I asked him why he needed the paraffin, and he said there were things he wanted to burn. I, thereafter, told him that I did not have the flammable substance,” the witness told the court.

Kasaine during cross-examination by the defense lawyers Katwa Kigen and Hassan Nandwa, who are lawyers for Maribe and Jowie respectively, told the court that Jowie who had earlier borrowed his firearm had a fall-out with then-fiance Jacque Maribe before the shooting incident.

According to the DPP, Kasaine confirmed to the court that he lent Jowie Irungu his firearm and he also noticed a hole in the wall of Maribe’s house with a spent firearm cartridge beneath it. He told court that Jowie had handled his gun three times.

The case has been scheduled for hearings between 25th-26th October and 11th-15th November 2021. Lady Justice Nzioka also noted that there is a pending ruling of an application by the prosecution to be determined virtually on 12th October 2021.
