Joining Raila? Governor Kiraitu wants Munya as Azimio’s running mate, says the CS is a fighter

Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi has urged Azimio Coalition to pick Agriculture CS Peter Munya as its running mate, saying the Agriculture CS was up to the task and was a soldier who will deliver for the people of Kenya.

Murungi, also the DEP Party leader hailed CS Munya for his sterling performance in the Agriculture docket and thanked him for stepping down from the county’s gubernatorial race.

”We pray for Peter Munya to get a good position at the national level, we know the deputy president position has not been named, he is a great strong fighter, he is a warrior. He did not resign when others were resigning, which means he has left the county to me, I was preparing for a bruising campaign but now he has made that easy, we will continue with the campaign but not with the same intensity,” Governor Kiraitu said Meru.

The governor’s remarks come at a when it is rumored he plans to defect to William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza Alliance during the Devolution Empowerment Party (DEP) on March 18th.

According to some reports, the Meru governor has had a change of heart on working with UDA following a declaration by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi that he is also going for the gubernatorial seat in August – complicating things for the governor who expected a smooth ride following Peter Munya’s withdrawal from the race.

The governor now considers joining Raila and the Azimio Coalition.
