Jaramogi Oginga, Raila’s new grandson named after first VP

While celebrating the 71st birthday of Mama Ida Odinga on Tuesday, the family of Raila Odinga Jr welcomed a newborn son, whom Raila Odinga Sr revealed his name during an interview with Gikuyu Media stations this morning.

While responding to a question from one of the reporters, on what his relationship with Mt Kenya was like, the ODM leader said his son had married in Muranga and he has a grandson from the mountain.

“Huyu mjukuu ameitwa Jaramogi Oginga, lakini yeye pia ni mjukuu wa mlima huko. Kijani wangu Junior ameoa huko mlima upande wa Murang’a,” the ODM leader said during the interview.

While making the announcement for bearing a new son, Raila Odinga Jr thanked the mother of his child for giving Mrs. Ida Odinga the best birthday gift in the world.

Jaramogi Ajuma Oginga Odinga (October 1911– 20 January 1994) is regarded as the country’s father of Democracy and doyen of Opposition politics. He was a prominent figure in Kenya’s struggle for independence and later served as Kenya’s first Vice-President, from 1963, before resigning in 1966.
