William Ruto has his eyes trained for the top seat in 2022 and is pulling down all stops, to ensure he succeeds President Uhuru Kenyatta. In his latest move, the DP has entered into a secret pact with 14 outgoing governors, to help him consolidate support in the counties.

According to sources, the pact is with county bosses from Western, Rift Valley, Coast, Mt Kenya, Eastern and North Eastern regions, who have agreed to board Ruto’s 2022 bandwagon. Even though the political agreement does not show what position the leaders will be given, they have been assured of a steak in DP Ruto’s administration, if they win the presidency next year August.

”The governors are very instrumental in grassroots mobilisation in their counties and regions. Therefore, their support is very crucial. The DP knows this and has put emphasis on the matter even as he increases the number of MPs and MCAs he will be working with,” a source a quoted by The Standard reveals.

Besides the 14 governors, DP Ruto has also been reaching first-term county bosses, and there are reports 13 are already in his fold. The first term county chiefs have been assured of support when they shall be defending their seats in 2022.
