Political clouds are steadily gathering and in Kenya, when electioneering rains begin, it heavily pours. Kirinyaga Women Rep Purity Ngirici has warned Deputy President William Ruto, any attempts to enter into a coalition with Raila Odinga will be of dire consequences. Especially to his grip on the 8 million Mt Kenya vote-block.

”If Ruto goes ahead and forms a coalition with Raila, I can tell you without fear that all MPs who support Ruto from the vote-rich basket will abandon him, I being in the frontline,” Ms Ngirici is quoted in a local publication.

The Kirinyaga Women Rep is among a number of allies of the DP from Mt Kenya who have opposed a political alliance between the Odinga and Ruto, saying they will not be party to it and may even bolt out of the DP’s camp.

Her sentiments were supported by Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua, who said the only way Odinga can enter into a political alliance with Ruto is by supporting him (Ruto) for the top seat.

“We are not going to enter into any coalition deal with Odinga, that you can take to the bank. If he has subscribed to our hustlers’ transformation agenda, he can do so by way of voting for Ruto as the fifth president in 2022, but we can’t form an alliance with him,” said Mr Gachagua.

For the past two weeks, talk has been rife over a possibility of the ODM leader joining hands with the Deputy President in 2022. This follows a revelation by William Ruto that he has been talking with Raila and even lauded the former premier for heading a party with a national outlook.
