Hustlers Nightmare: President Ruto Splashes 800M on New Cars

The offices of President William Ruto, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi have been allocated Sh802.2 million to buy motor vehicles in the current financial year.

This is just days after President William Ruto nominated 50 Cabinet Administrative Secretaries.

A departure from Kenya Kwanza campaigns promise of enforcing austerity measures in their administration to reduce government spending, amidst the brutal high cost of living.

2022/23 budget estimates, funds for the purchase of new cars for all State bodies in the current financial year ending June more than doubled to Sh2.06 billion from Sh810.3 million that had been allocated in the original budget, with State House, DP Gachagua, and Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi’s offices accounting for more than 40 percent of the budget.

The three top offices got more money from the Treasury for new cars than the Office of Inspector General of Police, which was allocated Sh574 million to move policemen protecting more than 50 million Kenyans.
