1 min read

The Mt Kenya Foundation has forwarded a list of five names to Raila Odinga on who the elite group feel should be the ODM leader should pick a running mate from.

This follows a series of consultations with the region’s leaders over the last month and their subsequent meeting with various presidential candidates, among them Raila Odinga and principals of OKA.

Some of the proposed names to the ODM leader include former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, CS Mutahi Kagwe of Health, Equity Bank CEO James Mwangi, Agriculture CS Peter Munya, and Governor Lee Kinyanjui of Nakuru.

Even though the former prime minister has not publicly declared he will run for the top seat and who his preferred running mate is, all points indicate he will pick one from the Mt Kenya region.

Sources indicate Agriculture CS is highly ranked in the list, given Mt Kenya East politics. The eastern part of GEMA nation feels it is time one of their own became the region’s kingpin and political spokesperson, for the first time since independence.

Speaking on Tuesday, Governor Lee Kinyanjui disclosed he had registered the Ubuntu People’s Forum (UPF), which he will be using in 2022. It is believed UPF will be entering into a coalition with ODM if he is picked as Raila’s running mate.
