Evidence from the EACC show former Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero used stolen public funds to construct his luxury Gem Apartments located in Nairobi’s Riverside Drive.
Kidero, in collaboration with his former Chief of Staff, Eric Wainaina, looted Sh. 14.4 million from City Hall through a fake legal contract in January 2014, money which was used to build the serviced apartments. Cups Limited, a company associated with Mr. Wainaina was used to wire the money to Dr. Kidero’s accounts.
“In the alternative and without prejudice, a declaration that the plaintiff (EACC) is entitled to trace the aforesaid amount… into serviced apartments (known as Gem Apartments) on land parcel known as LR. No 205/46 within Riverside Area, in Nairobi County and that the 1st defendant holds the property in trust for the county government of Nairobi,” documents before the anti-corruption show read.
The commission now seeks to recover the 14.4 million property from the former governor, as it continues to net all accomplices and parties involved in the looting during Kidero’s reign between 2013-2017.
Gem Investments, Gem Apartments, Gem Suites, Orro Limited, and Argenti Limited are some of the prominent enterprises linked to the former Nairobi governor, who owns hundreds of acres of land worth billions of shillings.
