DIKEMBE: George Oduor Takes Final Bow

The passing of George Oduor brings to an end the career of one of Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga’s longest serving aides.

A reserved yet friendly man, secretive to maintain discretion; kinder to those struggling for access, that was George.

If there’s one lesson I learnt from George Oduor, which lesson was learnt very early in my formative days around ODM/Raila Odinga, it was that you can still be humble around power.

May his family find peace and strength during this time of irreparable loss.

Jowi! Jowi! Jowi!

Editor’s Note:

George Oduor, who served as the personal bodyguard to Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga for over 25 years, has passed away.

Oduor, who also previously protected Odinga’s father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, died at Nairobi West Hospital after a brief illness following an accident.

Known for his humility, wisdom, and dedication, Oduor’s death has led to an outpouring of tributes from those who knew him, highlighting his significant role within the Odinga family and Kenyan political circles.
