Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya has revealed an elaborate plan by President Uhuru Kenyatta to counter Deputy President William Ruto’s wave in Mt Kenya starting January, as he takes charge of his Mt Kenya backyard.
CS Munya, a staunch Uhuru supporter and an ally of Raila Odinga will lead the team, comprising Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries, and Chief Administrative Secretaries to the region where they will list President Uhuru Kenyatta’s achievements and trash the DP.
Munya told a local publication part of the assignment is to explain to Mt Kenya voters why they must turn out in large numbers to participate in the 2022 general election given the fears of voter apathy due to a lack of a formidable presidential candidate from the region.
”We want to ensure that the region delivers a commanding number of votes in next year’s polls.You cannot intimidate us by telling us that we can not play politics. I have been in politics for a long time and no one holds the monopoly of engagement as far as the 2022 general election is concerned,”’CS Munya said while affirming cabinet secretaries will not be gagged from politics.

The Agriculture docket boss’ remarks were supported by Interior PS Karanja Kibicho who confirmed they will be sensitizing the people of Mt Kenya on the need to elect the right leaders starting January.
“We need to put our house in order early enough so that our people will not vote blindly. As a result, we need from January to start sensitising them on the need to ask the right questions to politicians who are begging for their votes,” Dr. Kibicho said.
A PS disclosed that from next year, President Uhuru Kenyatta will be getting into the political ring to face his deputy head-on, as he paves way for Raila Odinga to take charge.
“From next year, it is going to be bare-knuckle combat because as public officers, we will be heeding the President’s political direction on his succession,” the PS already briefed about the plan said.
