In a bid to bolster the security and well-being of probation officers in the aftermath of the recent court shooting tragedy at Makadara law courts, Correctional Services Principal Secretary Salome Beacco has affirmed her commitment to providing support and ensuring the safety of these essential personnel.

Addressing probation officers at the Nairobi probation hostel in Makadara during a debriefing session, PS Beacco underscored the pivotal role probation officers play in the criminal justice system, emphasizing their significance in upholding law and order.

Terming the recent incident as unprecedented, Beacco reassured the officers of additional safety measures in place, stating, “One of the greatest conquests against your enemy is refusing to be discouraged. Continue with what you have been doing, the best days are ahead of you.”

Highlighting the initiatives undertaken by the State Department for Correctional Services, Beacco mentioned the commencement of psychosocial support for affected officers, particularly the nine individuals present at the court premises during the tragic shooting. This aligns with the department’s focus on mental wellness for effective service delivery, a theme prioritized and heightened across various regions.

Subsequently, PS Beacco paid her respects at Makadara law courts, standing in solidarity with the judiciary in mourning the loss of Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti. While honoring Kivuti’s legacy as a trailblazing jurist and advocate of justice, Beacco urged judicial members to remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice and unwavering commitment to the rule of law.
