ODM leader Raila Odinga is headed to Kajiado county this morning where he will receive high-profile defectors as he consolidates the Maa nation behind his 2022 presidential bid.

Over the weekend, senior allies of Mr. Odinga met leaders from the region, including Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku who has agreed to support the former prime minister’s fifth stab at the presidency.

”Today Monday 13th Sept. 2021, PL Raila Odinga will be in Kajiado County for an engagement with the people of the Maa Community on how to build a better Kenya,” this morning’s update from ODM Party reads.

Two weeks ago on September 2nd, leaders from the vote-rich Meru region led by Governor Kiraitu Murungi hosted Raila in Nairobi, a meeting that saw the region throw its weight behind his bid.

”We are the ones who demonised Raila for Kibaki to win; we are the same people who demonised him for Uhuru to win. But now things have changed. Kibaki and Uhuru are not running; so the lies have no place. Raila is now a hero of the ‘handshake’,”Kiraitu Murungi said at their meeting.

Today’s meeting will bring together all Maa leaders from the counties Kajiado, Narok, and Samburu.

Ole Kenta, the Narok North MP said he will be attending the meeting where they will push for the interests of their community inside Raila Odinga’s camp.

“While I am not privy to the details of the meeting, what is paramount to the Maa community is the unity of purpose and the development agenda that we as the leaders must push for our people,” he said.

After launching the Azimio La Umoja rallying call in Nakuru county in August, Odinga has taken a similar message to Nyanza, Western Kenya, and now, the Maa.
