The Azimio One Kenya Alliance has settled on Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua as the most suitable candidate for the coalition party’s running mate position, this publication can authoritatively reveal.

According to highly placed sources within the broad alliance, the five-member committee constituted by President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga last week to handle the issue of the coalition’s running mate settled on Karua last night, at a meeting also attended by Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu.

These reports were confirmed when Political Scientist and President Uhuru’s strategist Prof. Mutahi Ngunyi tweeted last night a consensus had been reached. Prof Ngunyi was part of the team tasked with identifying Mr. Odinga’s running mate.

The five-member team comprised politicians and technocrats including Head of Civil Service Francis Kinyua, Azimio Executive Director Raphael Tuju, Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, Professor Makau Mutua, and an official from the Wiper Democratic Movement.

Two senior officials from the DCI have been part of the unit, with Professor Mutahi Ngunyi heading its secretariat from his State House office.
