Ngunjiri Wambugu’s bid for the Jubilee Party National Chairperson position has now collided directly with the party’s formal disciplinary machinery, placing his leadership ambitions and his relationship with the party establishment on the same battlefield.
In a notice dated September 30, the Jubilee Party Disciplinary Committee summoned Wambugu to explain a series of alleged breaches of the party constitution, giving him until 5pm on October 8, 2026 to respond.
At the centre of the disciplinary case is Wambugu’s role in organising and communicating through the Jubilee Aspirants Forum 2027, which the committee alleges operated outside recognised party structures. He is also accused of acting contrary to directives from the Secretary General and of exercising powers that the party constitution reserves for the Party Leader.
The committee further questions his use of his verified Facebook platform and personal email address in communications involving Jubilee members and prospective aspirants.
The timing is significant. Wambugu formally entered the race for Jubilee National Chairperson only days ago, saying he intended to participate in the party’s forthcoming National Delegates Convention.
His leadership push has also been accompanied by calls for the party to allow delegates, rather than individuals, to determine its future leadership. Earlier this month, Wambugu insisted that the NDC should decide who succeeds Uhuru Kenyatta as party leader.
Wambugu is seeking a bigger formal role in Jubilee at the same time the party’s disciplinary organ is questioning whether some of his recent political activities were themselves within the party’s formal structures.
