EALA MP Winnie Odinga reveals former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, would probably have made a sixth stab at the presidency next year were he still walking among us.
Speaking in a candid YouTube interview that dropped on August 1, the younger Odinga painted a picture of a restless Baba who would have struggled to sit on the sidelines in the next elections.
“If you look at today and the dissatisfaction of people, slow development, he may possibly have joined the race,” Winnie told her interviewer, her words landing like a stone in a still pond.
Raila, who breathed his last in October 2025, had contested the top seat five times without success but remained the undisputed kingpin of resistance politics until he shocked the nation by entering a cooperation pact with President William Ruto .
But pressed on whether she herself would throw her weight behind Ruto’s re-election push come 2027, the EALA legislator became cagey.
“That is a very hot question to ask in positions like this, but I have not decided,” she said, choosing her words like someone walking through a minefield.
On whether ODM, the party her father built into a formidable machine, would endorse Ruto for a second term, Winnie was equally non-committal but pointed to party democracy.
“On endorsing Ruto, it is the ODM members who will decide. I cannot speak for all members, and that is where the NDC comes in,” she said, referring to the National Delegates Convention, the party’s supreme decision-making organ.
Her comments come at a delicate moment for ODM, which has four Cabinet Secretaries in Ruto’s government and is now demanding the Deputy Presidency in a joint UDA-ODM 2027 presidential ticket.
