Jubilee Party Responds to Ngunjiri Wambugu on Zoning, Matiang’i’s 2027 Bid, and Party Leadership Legality

The Jubilee Party has issued a formal response to former Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu’s inquiries regarding political zoning, Fred Matiang’i’s 2027 presidential candidature, and the legality of the party’s current leadership.

In a letter dated May 7, 2026, signed by Deputy Party Leader Joseph Maanje, Jubilee clarified that it has not entered into any zoning agreement with any political formation, including the United Opposition. The party reaffirmed its continued membership in the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition.

Addressing questions about former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s presidential ambitions, the party confirmed that Matiang’i had formally applied to be considered as Jubilee’s 2027 presidential flagbearer.

However, the party emphasized that the nomination process remains open to other aspirants once the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announces the official election timelines.

The party further noted that all aspirants will undergo a transparent nomination process in accordance with Jubilee’s internal nomination rules.

On the issue of the legality of current office holders, the party maintained that all leadership changes were conducted lawfully.

According to the letter, the National Executive Committee (NEC) held a meeting in January 2026, during which leadership adjustments were made in compliance with party regulations and national law.

The response appears aimed at addressing growing speculation within political circles about Jubilee’s internal structure and its positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
