FRANCIS KIMEMIA seeking to recapture his Nyandarua seat made very interesting comments about Matiangi the other day.
Whereas we in Luo Nyanza do not remember any project CS Matiangi undertook, Governor Kimemia counted quite a huge number of projects Matiangi launched or commissioned in Nyandarua.
In Central, Matiangi’s ‘development record’ is being loudly touted. He seems to have taken the entire cake there. This is a record Matiangi built after 2018, when he was elevated as the de facto no.2 in Kenya. His elevation was made possible by the coming into force of the Handshake, which watered down then incumbent DP Ruto’s power and influence in government.
The Handshake’s biggest beneficiary was Fred Matiangi. Its biggest victim was William Ruto. The ODM Party, used as hatchet to remove Ruto, benefited nothing.
The irony is that the Ruto base in Mt. Kenya currently embracing Matiangi hated him throughout Uhuru’s second term. They been forced to clutch at Matiangi. But earlier, they emerged as ‘tangatanga group’ and their key targets always included Matiangi, alongside Uhuru and Raila.
The current DCP lot were the Tangatanga group minus Kimani Ichungwah. They have rejoined the Uhuru diehards who never backed Ruto, many who also never backed Raila or did so very grudgingly, like the Kimemia-Kibicho-Kameru groupies in and out of Uhuru’s government. Why is it easy for this group to now embrace Matiangi despite their dislike for him under Uhuru?
First, Kiuks hawana horse.
Their only candidate, Rigathi Gachagua, is impeached and cannot vie. It means they have to ‘dandia’. They are in the same problem like Luos only that Luos hawana candidate na pia hawana agenda. Right now Luo agenda is not in a single representative idea, but the general development of Luoland.
It is easy for Ruto in Luoland because he is appealing to what the Luo see as their most urgent need — development of Luoland.
President Ruto has descended in Luoland with massive piers, longer roads, stable grid stretched to villages and a radical rail network set to fundamentally transform mobility in and out of the commonwealth.
To uproot President Ruto in Luo Nyanza means you must come up with a development plan more ambitious than Ruto’s Ksh100 billion Nyanza Plan.
