In 2002 the Kibaki-Wamalwa-Ngilu ticket limped during the entire campaign period till Raila Odinga (Luos) joined them.
The same is happening now.
The Gachagua-Natembeya-Kalonzo ticket is limping with the Luo refusal to join.
They have tried to pull all manner of games on the Luo to join their doomed voyage. So far, they are grossly unsuccessful, only attracting fringe elements in our community, mostly the mokimo eating group!
In 2002, once Raila joined them, taking charge of the campaign and delivering a solid victory for the opposition ticket; they quickly claimed they would still have won even if Raila did not join.
They thus created the basis for dishonoring the LDP-NAK MoU. Suddenly Raila could not even access state house!
There is no making the same mistake. We must not make the same 2002 mistake. The Luo should stay out of the Gachagua-Natembeya-Kalonzo ticket and watch it fail; so that the contribution of the Luo in 2002 is historically settled.
If the Luo are pounded to surrender and they accept to join Gachagua-Kalonzo-Natembeya group as an underclass, nothing will stop 2002 from repeating itself.
Gachagua will change the story and claim we were desperate.
There’s no election going forward that the Luo will approach with desperation.
If the threat is that we risk finding ourselves in ‘opposition’ by not joining the Gachagua-Natembeya-Kalonzo group; that’s like threatening fish with cold water.
In 2027, the Luo should correct 2002 and all subsequent elections, settling multiple scores on a single ballot.
It is William Samoei Ruto all the way…
