Kenya’s Landmark Agreement with Netherlands to Generate 3 Million Sea Trade Jobs

Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has struck a deal with the Netherlands government that is poised to transform Kenya’s sea trade sector.

This agreement, focusing on boosting horticultural and agro-logistics industries, is estimated to open up more than 3 million job opportunities, marking a monumental leap forward for the Kenyan economy.

Speaking today, Wednesday, March 27, 2024 Murkomen emphasized the positive impact of this collaboration, expressing, “This partnership is set to generate up to 3 million jobs in the horticultural and agro-logistics sectors, fueling Kenya’s economic growth.”

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with Dutch Ambassador Maarten Brouwer signifies a new chapter of cooperation between the two nations.

The creation of a cutting-edge cool logistics corridor from Mombasa to Malaba will not only revolutionize the transportation of fresh produce but also boost Kenya’s global competitiveness.

Murkomen highlighted the eco-friendly advantages of sea transport, stressing the significant reduction in emissions compared to air freight, highlighting the project’s crucial role in addressing climate change.
