Uhuru Kenyatta will be remembered as the President who broke protocols a number of times for his political rival turned close ally Raila Odinga, and the Jacaranda rally in Nairobi where the Azimio Coalition unveiled its flagbearer on Saturday was not an exception.
After leaving the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) where the Azimio Coalition parties were formally signing their political pact with Raila Odinga, President Uhuru Kenyatta rushed to the Jacaranda grounds so that he could get there before the Azimio presidential candidate to the surprise of many.
Protocol dictates, at any public function in the country the Head of State is always the last to arrive after all guests are seated and the first to leave after making his speech.
In a tweet on Saturday, an equally surprised Winnie Odinga disclosed she asked President Uhuru why he had arrived at Jacaranda early, leaving her father behind.
”I asked him where he left Baba. He told me the fourth must arrive before the fifth!” Ms. Odinga wrote.
During the Madaraka Day celebrations in Kisumu last year, the Head of State broke protocol after DP William Ruto had finished his speech to invite Raila Odinga to address the gathering. The President would do the same thing in December at the Jamhuri Day celebrations in Uhuru Gardens, Nairobi.
