In the quest for power, there’s only one thing the Luo community has not tried, which is: staying loyally in government to the end of a term.
When you analyze the politics of Kenya since independence, the Luo have participated in the formation of several past governments, including the first government; but have been unable throughout that time to stay in government for the end of term.
So far, we’ve thwarted all attempts to remove Luos from government or to bait Luos to exit on their own terms.
The Luo entry following cabinet dissolution in the post-Gen Z period was itself strenuously opposed by the Kikuyu tribalists led by Uhuru and Gachagua who tried all manner of games to stall the ‘handshake’.
Uhuru severally armtwisted Raila to reject the positions Ruto was offering, even though on the sides, he (Uhuru) was also negotiating with Ruto to accommodate his people.
Had Uhuru succeeded to the extent he wanted, nearly half his cabinet and government officials would have returned to government, including Matiangi, Mucheru and Kibicho.
Raila only okayed the entry of his ODM group to cabinet and government when he was confronted with the evidence of Uhuru’s treachery. Oburu then asked him: how do you listen to someone also negotiating on the sides?
For Gachagua, even GoK support for Raila’s AUC bid was unacceptable. Gachagua and his minions are the most primitive of the tribalists — the sort of people who oppose their own fellow citizen contesting a continental position.
It is the sort of tribalism that denies services to ordinary youths seeking hustler funds.
You all heard Gachagua’s minions like Methu and Thangwa vocalizing their primitive anti-Luo jingoism in public gatherings where people cheered back in wild agreement.
