A wave of storm has hit DP William Ruto’s camp in Laikipia county just a day after Azimio-One Kenya running mate Matha Karua raided the county, drumming up support for the coalition and its flagbearer Raila Odinga.
Former Laikipia East MP Mutahi Kamaru, who had vowed to campaign and mobilize votes for UDA in the county after losing his party’s nominations is among the latest batch of leaders to join Azimio.
The first group of defectors was witnessed on Wednesday at a campaign rally led by Martha Karua and Azimio Presidential Campaigns Board chair Nderitu Muriithi in Nanyuki where 60 UDA coordinators left Kenya Kwanza.

Speaking on Thursday to a local media station, the former legislator said DP William Ruto’s camp is full of leaders with dictatorial tendencies and he felt the country is not safe with such individuals at the helm while praising Raila Odinga as the kind of leader Kenya needs at this time.
”I have had the chance of interacting with Mr Odinga on several occasions and I can attest that he is a good leader. His team is full of people who have high integrity. I realised that the Kenya Kwanza camp was invaded by individuals that are yearning to enrich themselves if they won the polls,” Mr. Mutahi said.
“The UDA primaries were not transparent, because the party’s top brass had drawn their preferred line-up of candidates that were to be awarded certificates. Dr Ruto is surrounded by individuals that have dictatorial behaviours,” he added.
