Muhoho Kenyatta, younger brother of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, made a rare political appearance on Friday, joining Fred Matiang’i at a Jubilee Party function in Narok County.
The event, a Maa Delegates Conference organised by the Jubilee Party, forms part of the party’s ongoing grassroots mobilisation campaign as it seeks to rebuild its structures ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Muhoho’s presence at the high-profile gathering drew attention, given his traditionally low-profile role in public political activities despite being part of the Kenyatta political establishment.
He appeared alongside Matiang’i, who has intensified his campaigns in popularising the Jubilee party as he eyes the 2027 presidential seat.
Reports within the corridors of power suggest Muhoho is positioning himself to join elective politics following the retirement of his brother, former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Last month, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi claimed that retired President Uhuru Kenyatta is not idling in retirement but is actively engineering a royal return, not for himself, but for his younger brother, Muhoho Kenyatta, come 2032.
Ngunyi, known for his “tyranny of numbers” prophecies, points to recent leadership changes within the Jubilee Party as the smoking gun.
The removal of Jeremiah Kioni as Secretary General and his replacement by Richard Moitalel Ole Kenta is not, according to Ngunyi, a mundane administrative shuffle but a surgical clearing of the decks.
The analyst’s theory suggests a long-term succession plan is being carefully weaved by the Kenyattas with Muhoho being groomed for a future presidential bid.
Muhoho’s appearance at the Narok event, his first major public political engagement lends credence to speculation that the Kenyatta family is preparing for a new chapter in Kenya’s politics after Uhuru’s exit.
The Jubilee Party, which has seen its fortunes decline since the 2022 elections, is now attempting to rebuild its base, particularly in regions like Narok where it seeks to expand its influence among the Maa community.
