President Uhuru Kenyatta expected to tour Raila Odinga’s turf of Kibra to unveil a number of government projects as well as inspect the ongoing ones, under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS). This visit by the Head of State is coming after Raila’s three-day tour of the Mt Kenya region, whose climax was a meeting with the influential Mt Kenya Foundation.

In July, the president commissioned five new hospitals in Nairobi County and directed them to offer 24-hour services to residents.

The new health facilities were part of 24 such hospitals being constructed by Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) as part of a broad Government plan to decongest Kenyatta National Hospital, Mama Lucy, Pumwani, and Mbagathi hospitals.

The hospitals launched by the Head of State in a four-hour night operation were two-level 2 hospitals at Gichagi in Kangemi and Gatina in Kawangware as well as level 3 hospitals in Mukuru Kwa Rueben, Tassia Kwa Ndege and Our Lady of Nazareth in Mukuru Kwa Njenga.

The Kibra visit will see another batch of hospitals opened.

President Uhuru and the ODM leader have withstood political turmoil and intense resistance from some of their allies against the March 2018 handshake.

This has led to an acrimonious fall-out between the president and his deputy.

As things stand, the president has shown every indication he prefers the former prime minister to take over from him next year, not only as a sign of cementing their unity even further but also to ensure his legacy projects are left in a safe pair of hands.
