When Kalonzo Muysoka announced on June 17, 2025 that they are holding a meeting of their United Opposition to deal with the just plainly terrible political and policing situation in the country, many Kenyans thought finally they get it that the country needs the opposition to put serious efforts in resolving the quagmire in our country today and moving the Kenya to the next level.
Now it looks like we were all completely wrong. The so called United Opposition in Kenya still has no clue about what to do to help deal with the Ruto regime.
Their solution is to hope that the ICC will become the Kenya opposition party and solve all the problems in the country. How sad is that.
According to media reports, the United Opposition has accused President William Ruto’s administration of overseeing extrajudicial killings, deploying rogue police units, and forming illegal alliances with militia gangs, which they say mirror Haiti-style death squads.
The opposition bloc now says it is compiling evidence for submission to the International Criminal Court (ICC), seeking to have President Ruto held accountable for crimes against humanity.
In a strongly worded statement released Wednesday, the opposition condemned what it termed as “brazen shooting of unarmed citizens” during Tuesday’s peaceful protests in the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD), blaming the National Police Service (NPS) for carrying out what it described as “rampant and senseless extrajudicial killings.”
The opposition political faction painted a grim picture of what it claims is a coordinated crackdown on dissent, accusing the police of acting as “judge, jury, and executioner” under a “paranoid and repressive regime.”
They further allege that police officers are working in collaboration with militia groups, described as similar in nature to Haiti’s armed gangs, to violently suppress public protests.
“What is now clear is the Kenya-led Haiti Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission was not a peacekeeping mission, but a benchmarking trip by Ruto on the use of militia to terrorize a nation on taxpayers’ money,” read the statement signed by Martha Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, Rigathi Gachagua, Justin Muturi, Eugene Wamalwa, Mukhisa Kituyi and Saitoti Torome.

Someone needs to remind Kalonzo Musyoka and his opposition friends that the last time we had ICC issue arrest warrants for Kenyan leaders namely Uhuru Kenyatta and William Ruto in 2012 it involved massive and extensive investigative work by human rights leaders and activists in Kenya to bring in the ICC team for further investigations. Those investigations by Kenyans started way back in 2008 after the worst post election violence in our country.
The Maina Kiai team with the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) went all over the country collecting evidence by talking to and interviewing victims who survived as well families and witnesses of those killed by the accused leaders and collecting all the evidence needed by ICC to take up the case.
And remember we are talking about mass massacre in the country in which more than 1,500 Kenyans were killed mainly by state apparatus and other political leaders doing the killing. The KNCHR team had tons of evidence and witnesses including survivors of the mayhem and that is when the ICC made a conclusion that they had to take action. The investigators were not just issuing statements and making accusations because if that is all they did ICC would not even bother listening to them.
In that framework we can all agree that this dream of Kalonzo and his team imagining that ICC will solve their inability to be politically relevant in the country is a bad hallucination.
And Kalonzo and co media statement continues are claiming that they raised a series of pointed questions regarding the conduct of law enforcement during the protests, including: the use of masks and lack of identifiable badge numbers by officers; the deployment of live ammunition against unarmed demonstrators; as well as the alleged involvement of police officers in the looting of private property.
They further cited similarities between firearms used by Kenyan police and those reportedly supplied by the Kenyan government to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, and what they termed as perjury by senior police commanders before Parliament regarding the death of digital activist and teacher Albert Ojwang.
The opposition accused President Ruto’s government of systematically violating the Constitution of Kenya and international human rights laws, including the Rome Statute which established the ICC.
They went ahead to link Ruto to illegal arms transfers and accuses him of enabling atrocities both in Kenya and Sudan.
“It is clear the Ruto regime has waged war against fundamental human rights with calculated vengeance. He has deployed killer rogue police squads whose tactics are similar to the Haiti militia,” the statement added.
“These death squads are using special firearms that Ruto has also illegally supplied to Sudan’s RSF militia. These acts have resulted to countless deaths both in Kenya and Sudan.”
While expressing doubt that any form of accountability would come from within government institutions, the opposition disclosed that it has been collecting and compiling evidence to hand over to the ICC Prosecutor, seeking international intervention.
“To the Kenyan people: do not be afraid and intimidated,” the statement urged, calling on citizens to remain united in the face of what it described as a regime reliant on “bullets and lies.”
“The will of the people shall prevail, and the courage of Albert Ojwang and countless others will not be in vain. We stand united, resolute, and unafraid.”
Here is the last time the ICC solved all political problems in Kenya in 2012. It was great, wasn’t it, with all the ton of evidence provided to them by KNCHR and the witnesses.

The ICC said there was insufficient evidence against Joshua arap Sang (l) and William Ruto (2nd from right), pictured here shortly after the court’s finding was announced.
Other than asking the ICC to be the new opposition party in Kenya the United Opposition had many questions for the Kenya Police Officers and for President Ruto. I am sure both are going to be very eager to provide answers to them.
Instead of waiting for answers from President Ruto the opposition team should have just asked one of their key leaders former DP Rigathi Gachagua who on April 15, 2023 provided a perfect answer to those who were complaining when as DP he was directing the killing operations against the Saba Saba uprising challenging his boss President William Ruto at that time.
This has made things easy for the United Opposition where everybody has the infamous Elder of The Golden Heart (EGH) title meaning they have spent all their lives in government all of which have been murdering Kenyans. Make things easy for yourselves since you have a lot of other things to do.
Here is the answer Rigathi Gachagua have given them.
At the end of the day it seems the United Opposition have actually listened to their leader Rigathi Gachagua which basically tells them to stay at home and there will be no problems. This is why the entire opposition leadership in Kenya are terrified to take any action against the Ruto regime.
They are scared to death to come to the streets and join the activists and as a matter of fact mobilize tens of thousands of Kenyans to come to protest and fight for another government the way the 2023 Saba Saba fighters in Kenya were doing forcing Rigathi Gachagua and IG Japhet Koome to slaughter them in the streets. Good job fellas and keep it up and bring in that ICC mara moja to bring the country a new government.
Some Kenyans are complaining that Kalonzo Musyoka when he released the statement about the meeting he promised to provide Kenyans with the direction on where things are going in the battle for a new Kenya. Well Kalonzo has done that and the direction is to head to the Hague. You may need an airplane to get there but that is where opposition battles will be raging. What more do Kenyans want.
