ODM Party rejection of Uhuru Kenyatta in the post-Raila era is based on two historical grievances.
The first grievance is that as the Party Leader of the Jubilee Party, Uhuru Kenyatta presided a fractured party which delivered NOTHING to the joint ODM-JUBILEE ticket, then called AZIMIO.
Azimio rested on ODM and Jubilee as the core parties, with Wiper relegated. ODM produced the presidential candidate while Jubilee produced Martha Karua on the joint ticket. Karua had no constituency at the time of her picking. She was not a member of the Jubilee Party and stuck to her briefcase party, which compounded things in central.
But Karua was the last option as others opted for ‘safer’ seats or temporary early retirement, like Sabina Chege.
Lee Kinyanjui formed his party and opted to defend his Nakuru seat. Peter Kenneth had no backing. The rest of pro-Raila murima were composed of political lightweights, all who lost their seats in one fell UDA swoop!
Uhuru masked this Jubilee emptiness by promising ‘not to hand over power to a thief’. This promise was not kept too. He handed power to the same person he had told us was a thief! And he did so smiling. What was he to do?
See, ODM did not want Uhuru to rig the election for Raila. Raila had said multiple times he would accept defeat if the election was free, fair and credible.
ODM wanted Uhuru to ensure the state machinery does not rig the election. To date, Uhuru has not come clean to tell ODM whether Ruto won the 2022 polls fairly or he rigged. Uhuru can’t answer this question because if he says Ruto rigged, ODM will hold him accountable for presiding over a rigged election in favour of an opponent. If he says Ruto won fairly, he will confirm that he, alongside all of us, were defeated fair and square, which will make us wonder what has changed now to make Ruto vulnerable to defeat.
Since 2022, Uhuru has adopted ‘strategic silence’ on the issue of his role in Raila Odinga’s final loss.
He hopes ODM Party supporters are dumb enough to FORGET he was the PARTY LEADER of a dead party which contributed NOTHING to Raila Odinga, as well as the sitting president who handed over power to a thief.
