Kenya Railways Pensioners say their land is under invasion by a senior government official who wants to grab the 139 acres in Makongeni to put up residential flats that he will sell using his powerful position in government.
A source who spoke to this publication says agitated pensioners have warned the government of dire consequences if their land is forcefully taken away. They estimate the Makongeni land to be worth about Sh400 million per acre or Sh56 billion for the 139 acres.
Kenya Railways Staff Retirement Benefits Scheme has from 2020 been pushing for its 7,000 members to benefit from 20,000 houses low-cost housing units the Government is planning to build on the land in collaboration with the World Bank.
