”My leadership at the AUC will not be of the same rhetoric where people meet a few times in a year and return to the enclaves. My leadership will be pegged on the dreams of our forefathers, who expected that by now, Africa would by now roar in one united voice,” he said.
“Every year, there is a General Assembly here. Jets come and land and then there will be a lot of talk in the halls where resolutions are passed and off, people leave.”
Raila regretted that most of the resolutions passed in these meetings are never implemented.
“I can tell you without fear of contradiction, 93 per cent of resolutions that are passed here are never implemented. It has become a talk shop. I intend to change that and ensure all resolutions pass here are implemented properly,” he stated.
“African unity is sacred to me. We must return unity to the top of our priorities. Without unity in a fast-consolidating and changing world, Africa will continue to be marginalized, exploited, and irrelevant,” said Raila, adding that the continent’s progress must be driven by Africans as he outlined his economic transformation plan.
He said the continent had all the “tools needed to succeed” and advocated for the enhancement of Africa’s infrastructure, investment in energy, internet connectivity, and an open skies policy.
Mudavadi said Kenya is offering a lifelong Pan-Africanist, an accomplished global statesman who has demonstrated exceptional and visionary leadership.
“There is much that our continent can utilize from such an elaborate experience,” Mudavadi said.
He added that Raila has inherent capabilities to amplify the voice and bargaining power of the African continent.
“He has always offered his peace-making skills to national and regional peace and security initiatives. Notably, Raila’s strategic patience has fortified him as a peacemaker who has often foregone personal interests to achieve national and regional unity and stability,” he stated.
Luckily for Raila Odinga he has experience working with the AU where he served the AU as the High Representative on Infrastructure Development in Africa, from 2018 to 2023. Anytime you talk or work on Infrastructure and Africa at the same time you are in business for the continent. That is who Raila Odinga is and has been for more than four decades of his political work.
In the field Africa’s cross-continent high-speed rail transport between African cities the opportunities and benefits exist big time and Raila Odinga if elected as AUC Chairman has promised to work on that very diligently. Good for him and good for the continent. Bring it on. Please.
Africa also has opportunities for water system transportation systems because we are surrounded with oceans and have an unimaginable number of great lakes and rivers all over the continent. That is how African people have lived for generations but AU can take it a step further.
If Raila Odinga wants to do that, Africa will receive him from every corner of the continent with kindness and ideas on how to move forward.
In terms of intra-Africa transportation new formations we would ask Raila Odinga to work with the relevant government to look at Congo River, a giant in the Africa Interlink in transportation of goods and people across the continent.
Congo River
The Congo River is the largest river in western Central Africa and the most powerful on the continent. Its overall length of 2,900 miles (4,667 kilometers) makes it the second-longest in Africa (after the Nile). It is the fifth-longest river in the world, draining a basin of nearly 1.5 million square miles.
The river also has the second-largest flow in the world, with a discharge of 1.5 million cubic feet of water per second, trailing only the Amazon, and the second-largest watershed of any river, again trailing the Amazon; its watershed is slightly larger than that of the Mississippi River.
The Congo River of west-central Africa is the ninth longest in the world and the second longest in Africa. On a map, it looks a bit like a many-limbed tree, but the headwater stream farthest from its mouth into the Atlantic Ocean is the Chambeshi River high in the mountains of Zambia, giving it a length of 2,920 miles (4,700 kilometers). The Congo river system drains 1,550,000 square miles (4,014,500 square kilometers) and is the second-largest discharge of any river in the world.
Oh Yes, we know the political problems in DRC but that is part of what the job of the AUC Chairman is. Raila Odinga will do that and bring the communities in DRC together to build a country and that will be his job and he is telling African state leaders that he is ready for it. Good for him and good for Africa.
And talking about water transport in Africa how about Lake Victoria between Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda?
Crossing Lake Victoria with SCHOTTEL
Ferries are an important part of the infrastructure in many areas of the world. And this is no different on Lake Victoria in East Africa. To reliably carry people and supply them with goods.
With an area of nearly 69,000 square metres, Lake Victoria is the largest lake in Africa—and a vital resource for around 30 million people who live on its shores. It is not only a source of water and fish but also provides them with transport routes.
Every day, almost 40 ferries travel across the lake between Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya. One of these ferries is the MV Sengerema. Built in 1985, the vessel transports passengers and cars across the southern part of Lake Victoria seven days a week.
