Raila Condemns Attack on Senator Osotsi

Raila Odinga Junior has questioned the level of maturity among political leaders following the attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisumu.

Taking to his official X account on Thursday, April 9, 2026, the late Raila Odinga’s son strongly condemned the assault, urging leaders to uphold integrity and peace in the face of political differences.

“My deepest sympathies and wishes for a speedy recovery to Hon. Osotsi. I condemn in the strongest possible terms all forms of political violence. Leaders must rise above this and demonstrate integrity, maturity, and a genuine commitment to peace. Kenya deserves better,” Raila Junior stated.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, April 8, left Senator Osotsi nursing injuries at the Karen Hospital after being attacked by a group of armed individuals in Kisumu County.

Meanwhile, Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Oburu Odinga also condemned the attack, describing it as a cowardly act that has no place in a democratic society.

“It is with a heavy heart and profound concern that I have received news of the physical attack on the Senator of Vihiga County, Hon. Godfrey Osotsi. On behalf of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the entire leadership fraternity, I wish Senator Osotsi a full and speedy recovery,” Oburu said in a statement on X.

He further called for urgent action against those responsible, emphasizing that such acts of violence undermine Kenya’s democratic values.

“The attack on Senator Osotsi is not only unfortunate but utterly unacceptable in a civilised, democratic society,” Oburu added.

The assault has sparked widespread condemnation from leaders across the political divide, with calls for calm and renewed commitment to peaceful political engagement.
