Ngunjiri Wambugu, former Nyeri Town MP has raised key concerns about the political motivations behind Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment from office.
He argues that the case is more politically driven than legally justified, and the rushed nature of the process makes it unlikely to hold up in court.
Wambugu also pointed out the delays in appointing new IEBC commissioners, fearing that this could lead to recalls of elected leaders, further unsettling the political environment.
”There is a conspiracy to delay the appointment of IEBC commissioners, driven by fears that their appointment could pave the way for the removal of elected leaders through recall,” the former Nyeri Town MP said.
Highlighting Gachagua’s efforts to unite Mt. Kenya, Wambugu believes the region is now better positioned to negotiate with others.
He compared President Ruto’s surprising rise to Gachagua’s, suggesting That the Latter could similarly defy expectations. However, he warned that Kithure Kindiki may struggle to gain trust, as many see it as rising through political opportunism.
”The challenge Kithure Kindiki faces is convincing the people how he got that office. Many view him as an opportunist who capitalized on political machinations against Gachagua. The mood in Mt. Kenya is shifting, with growing disillusionment over Ruto’s leadership,” he said on Tuesday night during an online media session in Ruiru.
Wambugu hinted that if these concerns aren’t addressed, Ruto risks a one-term presidency. He also mentioned that some Mt. Kenya governors who promised Gachagua’s position, now feel betrayed, which could hurt Ruto’s support.
He also revealed that leaders backing the Finance Bill 2024 and Gachagua’s removal are facing backlash, potentially jeopardizing their re-election chances.
These developments indicate a turbulent political future for both Gachagua and Ruto.
