One by One. Poor Chebukati has to announce results that everybody already has in their hands.

What a tough job for IEBC chairman Chebukati. He has to announce what every already knows and different people have different numbers from the same IEBC portal.

And the agents of all the parties involved have pictures of all the 34 As, Bs, Cs, and whatever.

But amazing things have emerged from this election already. Take George Natembeya being elected as the governor of Trans Nzoia for example. What is in front of him for his county and can he do it? There are hopes and questions there that he will have to address.

And then James Orengo wins the seat to be the next Siaya governor. In fact for the first time since the 1980’s when he was on the ground in Ugenya fighting to be an MP this was the first time the man spent the entire campaign period in Siaya going village to village and town to town in the very cosmopolitan Siaya County.

It paid off and now he is our new governor because that is where I come from. I am going to meet him in the trenches.

Welcome my friend to the throne of work and agony.

And history is made in Lamu as first female is elected to be the MP of Lamu East constituency. Gender has been an issue in this campaign as it should be. Martha Karua represents something for women but the battles are way beyond. Getting work. Equal pay. The house helps treated like slaves even by those who run the government. Education. Right to inherit and own property.

Amid those issues Kenyans celebrate.

Ruweida Mohamed Lamu East MP.
